Threads post preview
See the post in Threads's own chrome before you publish it. Nothing you type or attach leaves your browser.
Nothing you type or attach leaves this tab - no upload, no account, no server.
Counted in Unicode code points: one plain character is one, and a link costs its full length.
What Threads hides, and where
A long post collapses after about four lines behind a translated-to-plain-text expander, but 500 characters rarely reaches it - the real cut on Threads is the reply. A post that needs a second post loses most of its readers between the two, so the first one has to survive alone.
Three posts Threads only half shows
- A quote before the commentA pasted quotation, then your take on it.The visible post is somebody else's sentence. At 500 characters there is no room to lead with someone else's words.
- One tag doing the work of fiveA post whose single hashtag sits mid-sentence.It reads as a word and still tags. The constraint pushes the tag into the writing instead of a block below it.
- A link postA sentence and a URL.The link preview card sits under the post, so the visible surface is one line of yours and a card that is somebody else's headline.
Only on Threads
- At most one hashtag per post - Threads enforces it.
- 500 characters, the same ceiling as a Mastodon default and a fifth of an Instagram caption, on an account shared with Instagram.
- Our adapter publishes one image per post today, though Threads itself takes carousels.
Questions
- Is this Threads post preview free?
- Yes. There is no login and no upload: it runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type or attach leaves your device.
- How many hashtags can a Threads post have?
- One. Threads enforces a single hashtag per post, which is the rule that catches people moving a caption over from Instagram, where 30 are allowed. The other tags have to become words in the 500 characters you have.
- Does the preview match what Threads actually shows?
- It is the same chrome our studio uses before a post publishes: Threads's current header layout, action row and media grid, in either of Threads's themes. Engagement numbers are decorative, as in every scheduler's preview.
- Does Threads cut the post off in the feed?
- Threads shows the whole post in the feed - nothing folds, so the 500-character limit is the only cut.
- How long can a Threads post be?
- 500 characters. Counted in Unicode code points: one plain character is one, and a link costs its full length.
Where these numbers come from: our sourced Threads spec page, every figure carrying its citation and the date we last checked it.

We built these because our own agents count against exactly these limits before they publish. Let them write the post too.
