A pin is a picture first and text second, and the text is split across three fields with their own ceilings: the description takes 800 characters, the title 100, and the destination link up to 2,048. Only the description counts against the 800 here. A pin cannot exist without an image or a video, so an empty media slot fails the pin no matter how good the words are.
