What actually costs characters on YouTube
Two fields, two limits. The description takes 5,000 characters; the title is separate, required, and capped at 100. Text-only community posts are not available over the API at all, so what is being counted here is always the writing around a video. Links in a description are live and clickable, which makes the description the only surface in this toolbox where a long URL earns its characters back.
