Hootsuite alternatives
This page is about leaving, not about buying us. What breaks, what carries over, what you should check before you cancel - and the alternatives that are not Shapeless, including staying where you are.
Why people leave Hootsuite
- Per-seat pricing that starts at $99 a month before anything is written, for a team of one or two.
- The features that justify the price - listening, advanced analytics - sit behind an Enterprise sales call you never make.
- You are managing content, not producing it, and producing it is the actual bottleneck.
Check these before you cancel
In the order they bite. Some of these turn out to be reasons to stay, and it is cheaper to find that out now than after the subscription lapses.
- The social inbox. If someone answers comments and DMs through Hootsuite every day, no tool in this shortlist replaces that - not us, not Buffer, not Postiz.
- Listening and saved streams. Export or screenshot anything you report on; it does not come with you.
- Seats and permissions. If a client or a compliance reviewer must approve before publish, check the replacement can express that chain.
What carries over
- Connected accounts reconnect through each platform's own OAuth. Nothing transfers automatically, from any tool to any tool.
- Your calendar and cadence: describe it once and the agents keep it.
Where to go instead
3 honest answers, one of which is staying where you are. We are last on purpose - if one of the others fits you better, take it.
- BufferThe straight downgrade that most Hootsuite leavers actually want: same job, $5 a channel, free tier to test it.
- MetricoolScheduling plus reporting at a small-team price. We have not researched it properly, so treat this as a pointer rather than a recommendation.
- ShapelessIf you are leaving because the content itself is the bottleneck, not the management of it.
Questions about moving
- What replaces Hootsuite's social inbox?
- Nothing on this page. We do not do inbox or comment triage, and neither does Buffer at Hootsuite's depth. If that is the daily job, staying is the honest answer.
- Is there a cheaper Hootsuite for one person?
- Buffer, and it is not close: $5 per channel per month with a free tier, against $99 per seat. Hootsuite's price only makes sense once seats, approvals and listening are load-bearing.
- Can I get Hootsuite's analytics elsewhere for less?
- Partly. Per-post performance is available almost everywhere including here. Cross-network listening and share-of-voice reporting are genuinely hard, and Hootsuite's Enterprise tier is one of the few places to get them.
