Facebook image and video sizes
One 851 x 315 cover upload, two different crops - and Facebook publishes both of them plus the 40 px the profile picture eats on mobile.
Every frame below is drawn to scale against the others in its section, and every number carries the Facebook page we read it on. Click a size to copy it.
Page cover and profile picture
Facebook is unusually specific here: it names the container ratio on each device and the overlap between the two assets.
Drawn to scale against each other
- Seen on mobile: 756 px, 2.4:1
- Seen on desktop: 560 px, 16:9
Both containers are left aligned and full bleed in Facebook's own words, so at 315 px tall the desktop 16:9 window is 560 px wide and the mobile 2.4:1 window is 756 px. Everything to the right of those is out of frame on that device. Facebook adds that the profile picture overlaps the cover by about 40 px on mobile; it does not publish how wide that overlap is, so nothing is drawn for it here.
- Page cover photo851x315
- The upload Facebook says loads fastest. It is then poured into a 16:9 container on desktop and a 2.4:1 one on mobile, left aligned and full bleed in both, so the right edge is the first thing to go.

- Page profile picture320x320
- Displays at 176 x 176 on a computer and 196 x 196 on a phone, cropped to a circle. Upload 320 x 320 - Facebook's own recommendation for quality.

Feed posts
Meta publishes recommended minimums per shape rather than one size.

- Meta's recommended minimum for a 1:1 Facebook Feed image.

- Feed post, portrait1440x1800
- Note the number: Meta asks for 1440 x 1800 here, not the 1080 x 1350 people carry over from Instagram.

Stories and reels
Same 9:16 frame as everywhere else, with Facebook's own floor.

- Bottom 40%: caption, handle and buttons
Meta names one measurable band: leave the bottom 40% free of text, logos and key elements. The top and side edges carry chrome too, but Meta publishes no pixel figure for them, so nothing is drawn there.
- Story1080x1920
- Facebook takes anything from 9:16 to 1.91:1 in a story and a minimum of 500 px, with 1080 x 1080 the recommended minimum image size.

- Reel1080x1920
- Meta's recommended minimum for a Facebook Reels image is 1080 x 1080; the frame itself is 9:16.

Questions
- What size is a Facebook cover photo?
- Upload 851 x 315 px. Facebook then fits it to a 16:9 container on desktop and a 2.4:1 container on mobile, left aligned and full bleed in both, so keep everything that matters on the left. The minimum it accepts is 400 x 150.
- How much of the Facebook cover does the profile picture cover?
- Approximately 40 pixels on mobile devices, at the bottom left. That is Facebook's own number.
- What size is a Facebook profile picture?
- Upload 320 x 320 px. It displays at 176 x 176 on a computer, 196 x 196 on a smartphone and 36 x 36 on most feature phones, cropped to a circle.
- What size is a Facebook post image?
- 1080 x 1080 for square, or 1440 x 1800 for the 4:5 portrait frame. Facebook's recommended minimum for portrait is higher than Instagram's - 1440 wide, not 1080.

Pixels are the half of the rules the platforms publish and our engine does not enforce. The other half - file formats, size caps, how many images fit in one post, what our API path will accept - is generated from the engine's own table at Facebook specs. Neither page restates what the other one owns.
