Survey19 servers, primary sources
The best social media MCP servers, measured
18 servers plus ours, read from their own pages: the endpoint, how an agent authenticates, which tools actually publish, which networks, and what the free tier really allows. Free forever, free if you host it, and card on day one are three different things, and the table says which is which.
How this was read
- Every cell was read from the vendor's own docs, pricing page or repository on the date under it. Listicles were used to find names, never to source a fact.
- Publishes means a tool on the server creates or schedules a post. Where the vendor lists tool names we print them; where it does not, the row says so.
- The order is what you can do for nothing: hosted and free forever first, then free if you host it, then routes through another tool, then card on day one, then read-only.
- We are one row and we mark it. Buffer's free plan reaches more networks than ours, Zernio gives two accounts unlimited posts, and Postiz costs nothing at all if you run it.

- https://shapelessai.com/mcp (hosted). Local: npx shapelessai mcp over stdio.
- Transport
- Hosted streamable HTTP; stdio through the CLI
- Auth
- OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, no API key; the CLI takes a scoped key
- Publishes
- Yes. posts_create publishes or schedules (queue, first comment); posts_approve and posts_publish act on agent proposals. Read: posts_list, posts_get, platforms_list, connections_list, jobs_*, brain_*. Publishing tools are annotated destructive, so the host asks first.
- Networks
- LinkedIn, LinkedIn Page, X, Bluesky, Threads, Instagram, Facebook Page, TikTok, YouTube; Reddit built, waiting on app approval
- Free tier
- Free forever, no card: 10 posts a day across every connected network, plus $5 of credits a month for the agents that make the post.
- After free
- $35 a month
10 posts a day on Free, counted on the UTC day they go out; over it the tool answers free_daily_cap with the reset time. Nine networks, not thirty.

- After free
- $5 a month per channel
Nothing publishes straight from the agent: posts created through your AI assistant land in your Buffer queue as drafts or scheduled posts. Rate limits run on rolling 15-minute, 24-hour and 30-day windows by plan.

- Free tier
- Free forever. The Free card lists Agents, API, MCP beside 10 posts a month, 1 social set, 1 user.

Not on the list, and why
Publer documents a REST API and no MCP server; the servers under its name in directories are third-party wrappers. Hypefury has no server of its own, only an unmaintained community repo with two tools. Publora and Publer are different companies, and search results conflate them constantly.
Questions
- Is there a free social media MCP server?
- Several. Buffer includes MCP on its free plan, Typefully lists MCP on its free card, Publora's free Starter has it, Zernio's first two accounts are free with the full API, Metricool's remote server works on any plan, and ours is on a free plan of 10 posts a day with no card. What differs is the cap: posts a month, channels, or posts a day.
- Which social media MCP server should I use?
- Match the wall to your loop. Posting daily from one agent: a per-day cap beats a per-month one. Many channels, few posts: Buffer's three channels and ten queued per channel. Everything self-hosted: Postiz. One network only: the open-source servers for LinkedIn, X, Bluesky and Mastodon, if you can get the platform's own developer app approved.
- Do I need API keys or a developer app for each platform?
- Not with a hosted server: you connect each network once through its own sign-in inside the vendor, and the agent authenticates to the vendor with OAuth or one key. The open-source single-network servers are the opposite: you create and get approved your own LinkedIn, X or Bluesky app and hand its secrets to the server.
- Will my agent post without my permission?
- MCP lets a server annotate a tool as destructive, and a well-behaved host asks before running one. Our posts_create carries that annotation; Buffer's server lands posts in your queue as drafts or scheduled posts rather than publishing on the spot. Check the row: a server that publishes immediately and is not annotated will do exactly that.
- Are posts published instantly or scheduled?
- Both, on the servers that publish: the create tool takes a time, a queue flag or nothing. Ours schedules for a time, drops into the next free queue slot, or posts now. Buffer's always goes through the queue. Sprout Social's does neither; it is read-only.
- What is MCP?
- The Model Context Protocol: an open standard that lets an AI host such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex call tools a server exposes. A social media MCP server exposes tools like create_post; the host adds the server by URL, authenticates once, and the agent can then read your queue and, where allowed, post to it.

Our server, tool by tool, with every host's add-it steps, is in the MCP reference. The same survey for the schedulers themselves, MCP or not, is the free schedulers survey.
Ours: add https://shapelessai.com/mcp to your host, connect an account, and posts_create schedules 10 posts a day for nothing.
